A Robert Gallon, or a McIntyre painting, that is the question. The front is signed R. Gallon and the back is penciled in McItnyre...uuuhhmmm. It is the story behind the story that makes this stuff so interesting.

Here
is where the story becomes curiouser and curiouser. The original painting was apparently cut down from a larger tableau and stretched over a different smaller stretcher.

We removed the canvas from its stretcher and salvaged all the edge that we could. We then re-line the old canvas onto a new canvas.

Then comes the fun part. It is patch, fill and in paint to our hearts content.
